2017 Update

As of 2017 we have sold our last stallion and horses that we will be offering for sale.  We now have only the horses that we plan to keep for our own use and enjoy doing combined driving events, riding clinics, western dressage, small shows and other clinics.  We want to focus on our riding/driving time and enjoying our personal horses as much as we can.

Coulee Bend Morgan Farm is a small Morgan breeding farm with big goals. The goal is to breed high quality Morgans that possess athleticism, beauty, brains, and most importantly have the dispositions that make them easy to train and easy to handle. The farm logo is ‘ Striving to raise show quality Morgans that are family oriented’.

Coulee Bend Morgans is owned and operated by Lyle & Cindy Dietz, and is located 2 miles north of Galahad, Alberta, in beautiful central Alberta. Getting into raising horses was a way to diversify the farming operation on the existing family owned grain farm. By bringing in quality breeding animals, and promoting them on the local, National and Inter-National market, the goal that was set forth has become a reality.

The stallions we have stood at stud have offered World Class bloodlines, with sires including UVM Promise, Futurity French Command and UVM Vanir. The addition of our Silver Dapple stallion has added a colorful flair and a great outcross to our mare band. As was the addition of our latest stallion, a double dilute stallion that will only produce Buckskin, Palomino and Smokey Black as base colors.  With the show quality Dun mares we have introduced over the past few years, one of our home grown colts, Coulee Bend Talisman is the First ever Silver Dapple Zebra Dun in the breed !  Another of our horses who is the only of of his kind is, Coulee Bend Rolls Royce, who is a Black silver dapple gray - unique doesn't begin to define him !!

We have shown our young horses in all levels of competition from local fairs, to Canada's largest Morgan Futurity (Alberta Futurity), to Class A shows in Canada and the United States right up to the World Level of showing in Oklahoma at the World Championship Morgan Horse Show and the World Morgan Futurity. Our breeding program has produced FOUR World Champions and many more Grand National Champions. Our horses have been shown in In Hand, pleasure driving, western pleasure, hunter pleasure, classic pleasure, english pleasure, trail, Park, reining and dressage.

Outside breeding has always been a very big part of our business, and we offer individual mare pens to outside mares coming to the farm for breeding, as well as shipped semen to breeders in Canada and the United States. Lyle is a certified A.I. technician, and not only supervises the shipped semen, but does all the on farm A.I. breeding as well. Due to time constraints and health issues, we have now put our breeding program on hold. 2016 is the first year that we have not bred any mares, it is a huge change but one that will let us spend more time with the horses doing the fun things in life.

We have both participated in and been quite active in the Alberta Morgan Horse Club as well as the Canadian Morgan Horse Association, holding various positions and working on committees. Lyle has served as Director and Vice-President in the Alberta Club, served as Zone Director and Western Vice-President of the Canadian Morgan Horse Association and served two terms as President of the Canadian Morgan Horse Association. Cindy had been the Co-ordinator of the Alberta Morgan MatchMaker sales list for 5 years and on the production team of the Alberta Morgan Directory. As well she has served as Director in the Alberta Morgan Horse Club and served as a committee member on the Alberta Morgan Futurity.

Showing our horses is something that we have both enjoyed immensely, but time constraints due to conflicts with our farming schedule often saw us working at home while our horses were competing at shows with the trainers. When we were able to attend, Lyle thoroughly enjoyed the excitement of showing our In Hand horses, and has also moved on to Pleasure driving, and hunter pleasure. Cindy enjoyed the ‘behind the scenes’ work of spit polishing the horses for the show ring, providing ‘rail side’ encouragement and taking her turn in the ring showing in western pleasure! Lyles new passion is in combined driving and with his mare 'Lu', and our home bred filly, Coulee Bend Reverence, our last UVM Thomise offspring.

We are also concentrating more on our Grand childrens entry into the world of horses, and they are starting to participate in fun events  and some competitions with not only our Morgans, but our miniature and pony that we have for them to have more 'size proportionate' horses to deal with.

We have made so many new friends through our horses, and it has been a wonderful experience to have gotten to know people all over Canada and the United States. Our sales have seen Coulee Bend horses travel from Florida to Washington, Maine to California, up to Alaska, all across Canada and even into Australia,  Austria & England !

We love our Morgans although now it will be on a much smaller scale, and we invite you the check out our farm, our breeding program and our stock for sale.
